Baker's Half Dozen for Charleston, SC
Baker Roofing Company is proud to be a part of the Charleston community, and we are excited to share with you our favorite local restaurants, family-friendly activities, and coffee shops! We hope you check all of them out, but if you have to choose just one it should be a Charleston RiverDogs game! We love being a sponsor of the RiverDogs, and love to see our customers there having a blast. Check out our Baker’s Half Dozen below, and share some of your favorite local spots in the comments!
Charleston RiverDogs – The RiverDogs season is wrapping up, so we recommend snagging tickets to one of the remaining games. The Charleston team recommends picking an evening game, so you can grab a bite to eat and enjoy the amazing sunset over the banks behind the stadium!
Poogan’s Porch – We wanted to share a little history of Poogan’s Porch with you all, as it is a staple in Charleston! We pulled some information from their website, “From the moment you step into the parlor of Poogan’s Porch, there is a pervasive sense of history: the knotted heart-of-pine floors, the dual staircases, and of course, the first and second story porches all reflect the Charleston of days gone by. Poogan’s Porch was originally a spacious, commodious home, erected in 1891. Poogan became the guardian of the fledgling restaurant. From his perch on the front porch, he presided over the renovation process, and when we opened our doors for business, he greeted our first guests warmly.” They aren’t kidding! The atmosphere is unlike other restaurants and even better, you can’t order wrong! The food is outstanding. From the She Crab Soup to the Shrimp and Grits, everything is yummy! Next time you’re down south, make sure you stop by for a visit – and don’t forget to make a reservation!
Polar Plunge – Although this amazing event is still a few months away, we think you should go ahead and put it on your calendar. The Polar Bear Plunge takes place at The Windjammer in Isle of Palms, and all proceeds go to supporting the Special Olympics. The water will definitely be chilly in February, but grab a few friends and take on the challenge as a team! There is also a Plunge Party with food and drinks to help warm everyone up after their plunge!
Cooper River Bridge Run – The Cooper River Bridge Run takes place on the Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge in the spring. The race itself is a 10k, but for those who may prefer a slower pace, there is also a Walk/Run Category and a separate Kid’s Race in Hampton Park. The view from the bridge will make all the hard work worth it!
Callie’s Hot Little Biscuit – This delicious spot was inspired by Callie’s Charleston Biscuits and allows customers the chance to pop in and quickly grab a biscuit. The shop serves Callie’s award-winning biscuits, pimento cheese sandwiches, slow-cooked grits, and French press coffee. Are you drooling yet?! The marketing team loves Callie’s and makes it a pit stop on any trip to Charleston!
Rise Coffee Bar – Rise Coffee is located inside Restoration Hotel and is a perfectly “Instagram-able” coffee shop! Swing in for a tasty scone and an oat milk latte. Since the shop is downtown, we recommend taking your coffee to go and exploring some of Charleston’s enchanting city streets.
