Asphalt Shingle Recycling Program

At Baker Roofing Company, we understand the importance of being environmentally conscious and we strive to take measures to ensure that our actions today will not leave lasting effects on the environment tomorrow. One measure that our company takes to reduce our carbon footprint is recycling asphalt shingles from residential reroofing projects.

Asphalt is recycled and repurposed at a rate over 99%, making it the nations most recycled and reused material. A report in 2009-2010 showed that the use of environmentally friendly warm mix asphalt grew by more than 148%, a percentage that continues to grow every day. Recycling of asphalt pavements and asphalt shingles conserved 20.5 million barrels of asphalt binder in 2010 alone.

Our Shingle Recycling Partners

Our company partners with Premier RAS, a local, family-owned company, to recycle and repurpose old shingles that have been removed during a residential or commercial reroofing project. This company works to keep shingles out of the landfills by making themselves more accessible to contractors and maintaining lower rates to drop off shingles as opposed to landfill costs. Before shingle recycling services were available, most contractors tore off old asphalt shingles and they went directly to the landfill. Today, there are more opportunities for companies to be more forward-thinking and work to keep this reusable commodity out of the landfill and recycle when they can. Since 2009, nearly 8,000 tons of shingles were kept out of our local landfills and reused for new roadways.
