What is Women in Construction Week?

While construction is typically seen as a male dominated sector, females are an irreplaceable part of the industry. Here at Baker we celebrate Women in Construction Week (WIC) as small display of our immense appreciation for the astonishing women that complete our company.

Women in Construction Week is a nationally recognized effort to highlight women as a visible component of the construction industry. The National Association of Women in Construction, along with thousands of its members across the country, use this occasion to raise awareness of the opportunities available for women in the construction industry and to emphasize the growing role of women in the industry.

The Wage Gap

The wage gap, or the difference between median earnings of men and women relative to the median earnings of men, is no longer a debated topic but a scientifically proven phenomenon.  Baker has dozens of notable women thus we take great pride in the construction industries improved wage gap. Nationally, women on average make 81.1 cents to every male dollar. In comparison, women in our industry make 95.7 cents to every male dollar. While improvement can still be made, the notable strides our industry takes to protect the integrity of women is commendable.

“We are so thankful for the women in our office. At Baker we will strive to create a work community with the best men and woman.”

Let us introduce you to a few of our astonishing women who we are proud to have in our Baker family.

Meet Chana Ferrell! She is more than an account manager for Baker Roofing, she represents what Baker stands for. Chana brings 100% work ethic to the table every day. She says “There is never a day ever in my life that I wake up in the morning and I dread to come to work. I love what I do. I think if you are passionate about what you do you become very successful at it.” Chana’s positive and “go get it” attitude has allowed her to become a role model and mentor in the office.

Similarly, our Multi-Account Manager for Baker Residential, Andrea, also takes great pride in her job. She is known for her efficiency as she takes projects head on and doesn’t look back. She advises any women entering the industry to approach work with a similar attitude.

We are so thankful for the women in our office. At Baker we will strive to create a work community with the best men and women.
