Beale Street – This popular street in Memphis is known for bars and cafes along with many live music venues. Visitors and locals enjoy this street on the weekends as people will hang out here until all hours of the night. The street has been a popular area since the early 1990s. Beale Street Baptist Church is a significant landmark in the area as it was a gathering spot for African Americans during the civil rights movement. Let us know in the comments area if you go to Beale Street!!
Memphis Zoo – Our employees that have young children enjoy the zoo. While they must keep a good eye on their kids in the crowd, there is so much to observe at the zoo. The exhibits can often entertain young kids for hours. Our favorite animals at the zoo are pandas.
Mud Island – Mud Island is a small peninsula that is surrounded by the Mississippi River. Therefore, it is not actually an island but rather an isolated area that represents Mississippi culture. The area is filled with restaurants and a lot of outdoor recreational activities.
Dixon Gallery and Garden – This garden is home to impressionist art and a botanical garden. In the warmer months, the garden looks the most grown and colorful. We love the Daisys!!
The National Civil Rights Museum – This is the site of Martin Luther King’s assassination. Therefore, many people visit this spot to remember and honor his legacy as a racial justice advocate. The museum contains exhibits pertaining to the civil rights movement in its entirety, not exclusively Martin Luther King. The museum is a great place to learn new information, especially for younger generations that did not experience the movement firsthand.
