About Us
110 Years of Always Good Work
In 1915, W.P. Baker rode into Raleigh, North Carolina on a mule. He had a trade, a work ethic, and a belief that doing things right wasn’t optional. He started a roofing company on those principles, hung a sign in his warehouse, and got to work.
That sign read: “We shall do good work, at a profit if we can, at a loss if we must, but always good work.”
It still hangs in our office today. And everything we’ve built since, every crew, every location, every relationship, is an extension of that same promise.
Generations later, W.P.’s grandsons Prentiss & Frank Baker came into the company fresh out of college and carried that same mindset forward. Baker Roofing grew, not through shortcuts or acquisitions, but market by market, relationship by relationship. That’s how we’ve always done it.
Now We All Own It.
In July 2025, Baker Roofing became 100% employee owned. Every person who wears our name, from the crew on your roof to the team managing your account, has a real stake in how this company performs.
That’s not a PR line. It changes how people show up. When the work you do builds something, you actually own, you take it personally. You care about the details. You follow through.
In an industry where private equity is buying up roofing companies and consolidating them into something unrecognizable, we went in the other direction. We kept it independent. We kept it ours, and by ours, we mean every single person on this team.
That stability is good for our people. And it’s good for you. The Baker Roofing you partner with today is the same one that will show up for you five years from now.
Baker History
We Couldn’t Find a Trade School, So We Built One.
Here’s the truth about the roofing industry: finding skilled, trained people is hard. Trade schools aren’t lining up to teach commercial roofing. So, most companies just figure it out as they go. We decided to do something different.
We built Baker Academy, our own internal training program designed to develop roofing professionals from the ground up. Craft skills, safety standards, quality control, and customer communication. We don’t just hand someone a tool and point them at a roof. We invest in making sure they know what they’re doing before they’re ever on yours.
What that means for you: every Baker crew is trained to our standards, not whoever happens to be available. Our service work is self-performed, no subcontractors, no unknowns. The person on your roof is a Baker Roofing employee who went through Baker Academy and has skin in the game as an owner of this company. Our production crews are specifically chosen and trained alongside our project managers, super intendents, and division leaders.
That’s the difference between a vendor and a partner. And it’s the difference W.P. Baker insisted on when he hung that sign in 1915.

BAKER NATIONAL ACCOUNTS PROGRAM
No matter how many locations you manage, one point of contact changes everything. That’s what Baker National Accounts was built for.
Managing roofing across multiple locations means coordinating vendors, chasing down service records, and hoping quality holds from one market to the next. We built our national accounts program to remove all of that. One relationship, one standard, all locations doing the same work the same way, everywhere you need us.
